چکیده

In flotation, the froth structure and froth stability are known to play a significant role in determining the mineral concentrate grade and recovery. Froth stability is not only depending on the type and amount of the frother used, but also on the amount and nature of the suspended particles. Furthermore, there are other parameters such as quality of water which are not yet fully understood. In plant practice, the recycling of process water (and very often of water from different sources) to reduce freshwater consumption is increasingly being common. However, using recycled water normally leads to the build-up of salts and surfactants in solution. Therefore, the effect of the process water chemistry on froth stability and more in general on the metallurgical performance, is important. In this study, the effect of water quality, including pH and type and concentration of salts (such as CaCl2, AlCl3 and NaCl) on froth stability and viscosity was studied. It was found that forth stability was higher in the presence of multivalent metal ions, at concentrations ranging between 15 and 40 mg/L. CaCl2 and AlCl3 considerably increased the froth stability (and viscosity). This may be due to bridging effect of polyvalent metal ions between the ore particles.

A new method for determination of frothability of frothers by using water recovery measurement

A new method was introduced for frothing characterization of flotation frothers. Method uses water recovery to develop a new frothability index named water recovery index (WRI). New index was determined for some commercial frothers and results were compared with dynamic frothability index (DFI). Results showed that water recovery index values follow the order of A-65 13016 s/mol > DF-250 6292.4...

Modeling of Texture and Color Froth Characteristics for Evaluation of Flotation Performance in Sarcheshmeh Copper Pilot Plant, Using Image Analysis and Neural Networks

Texture and color appearance of froth is a discreet qualitative tool for evaluating the performance of flotation process. The structure of a froth developed on the flotation cell has a significant effect on the grade and recovery of copper concentrate. In this work, image analysis and neural networks have been implemented to model and control the performance of such a system. The result reveals...

Froth flotation is the most widely used technique for the separation of valuable minerals from gangue ones. Changeable nature of feed, interaction of variables and weakness of accurate measurement equipment have made the development of monitoring methods and continues control of flotation circuits to an important issue. Today with the advance of technology, machine vision systems based on image...

Frothing Phenomena in Phosphate Gangue Flotation from Magnetite Fines with Fatty Acid based Collector and MIBC Frother

Dephosphorization of magnetite fines at LKAB is carried out by floating the phosphorous gangue using a fatty acid based collector namely Atrac and MIBC frother. Excessive and stable froth formation in flotation led to an unnecessary step of diluting the phosphate froth gangue component to transport to tailings damn. In this study the influence of reagents and their combinations on the froth pro...

Effect of operating parameters on desulphurization of mine tailings by froth flotation.

A site-specific study is carried out to assess the suitability of froth flotation for desulphurization of reactive mine tailings at the Musselwhite Mine, Northern Ontario, Canada, to prevent acid mine drainage (AMD). The results from pilot scale flotation tests on an Outokumpu flotation unit are presented, which confirm that froth flotation is effective to reduce sulphide contents of tailings. ...
